Ate Waza - Striking Techniques

Karate utilizes all parts of the body as weapons for striking and the strikes are normally targeted at the weakest parts of the human body.

In keeping with the hard and soft meaning of Goju, so the strikes with an open hand are termed 'soft' and strikes with a closed fist or elbow are 'hard'. Often the 'hard' strikes are to soft areas of the body and 'soft' strikes are to hard areas.
